Guatapé and El Peñol Tour from Medellín

What Will You Do?

If you’re in Medellín or visiting, a tour you can’t miss is the trip to Guatapé and El Peñol. In these two Antioquian towns, you’ll find plenty of natural and cultural spaces to enjoy. You can climb the impressive 700 steps of El Peñol’s rock, stroll through Guatapé’s colorful streets adorned with zócalos (decorative tiles), visit craft shops, restaurants, bars, and more. Take a boat ride on the reservoir and explore other attractions.

Description:

At 8:00 a.m., we’ll meet in front of the “Diez Categoría Colombia” hotel (private group at the hotel). From there, we’ll head east into Antioquia on an approximately 2-hour journey. Along the way, we’ll stop at a restaurant for a typical breakfast. Next, we’ll continue to the replica of the old Peñol—a small village that reminds us of the population submerged by the reservoir in 1978. There, we’ll board our boat for a scenic ride on the reservoir, accompanied by good music and insights into properties owned by important figures. Later, we’ll explore Guatapé, including its main square, zócalo-filled plazoleta, and waterfront malecón. After a delicious lunch, you’ll have time to explore further. And finally, the highlight: El Peñol awaits, where we’ll climb to the top for the best views.
